DIVORCE

• • Remarriage - allowed in Islam for men and women after divorce or death of spouse, different laws about remarriage including iddah
• • Divorce is allowed if: adultery, abuse, apostasy (leave Islam), infertile, long absence
  • Divorce is only permissible if the couple tried everything to fix their problems
• • Iddah - a waiting period a woman must observe after the collapse of a marriage
  • The purpose is to ensure certainty of pregnancy, allow for emotional adjustment and to avoid confusion
• • Initiation (talaq) - divorce initiated by the husband 3 times
• • Mubara'ah - mutual divorce agreement between a husband and wife in Islam
• • Khul - where the wife initiates the divorce in Islam
