    • Cominform
      • In October 1947, Stalin set up the Communist Information Bureau, or COMINFORM to co-ordinate the work of communist parties in Eastern Europe.
      • COMINFORM brought communist leaders from countries regularly to Moscow so they could be briefed by Stalin and his ministers.
      • This allowed Stalin to keep a close eye on the other communist leaders
      • If he saw that any of the communist leaders were not loyal to him he would replace them with moscow trained ones.
    • Truman doctrine
      • The Truman doctrine was started by American intervention in Greece and marked a new era in world politics.
      • Under the Truman doctrine the US was ready to send money equipment and advice to any country taht was threatened by a communist takeover.
      • Truman accepted that eastern europe was now communists, shifting his aim to stopping communism from spreading. This started the police known as "Containment"
    • The Marshal Plan - 1
      • Truman believed that communism worked when people were faced with poverty and hardship.
      • He sent his Secretary of state George Marshall to europe to asses their economic state.
      • Marshall found taht europe was a ruined economy. The countries of Europe owed 11.5 Billion to the US.
      • Marshall thought 17 Billion dollars would be needed to rebuild europe.
      • In December 1947, Truman put his plan to Congress. For some time the plan was denied as many Americans were becoming concered by Trumans involvement in foregin affairs.
    • Marshal Plan - 2
      • On the 16th of July 1947, the conference of European Economic Co-operation was held.
      • 16 Representatives from each nation began negotiations for the Marshal Plan
      • Eastern European countries were invited, however they were prevented from attending by Stalin.
      • By September, 16 Nations agreed to allow imports from countries involved in the Marshal Plan
      • Germany needed to recover economically
      • Establishment of production goals for coal, oil steel and agricultural products.
