Synaptic transmission

Cards (6)

    1. Info is passed down axon as an action potential
  • 2. once action potential reaches the end of an axon it needs to be transferred to another neurone or tissue by crossing the synaptic cleft
  • 3. at the end of the neurone are synaptic vesicles which contain neurotransmitters
  • 4. the electrical impulse carries signals across the synaptic gape, they bind to the receptor sites on post-synaptic cell which them becomes activated
  • you cannot transmit backwards because the presynaptic transmission does not have receptors so cannot transmit the action potential back across synaptic cleft
  • summation occurs after synaptic transmission
