  • Due to Article 109, Women were allowed to vote. 90% approximately voted. One of the first nations to allow women to vote. Not only that but they could also stand for election
  • A lot more women worked in professional careers. Part-time work was the most popular type of work for women. Women however, had 33% less wage than men. This allowed them more disposable income. However, women were still expected to do more domestic work, this ultimately led to some sour beliefs about freedom from other women
  • Neu Frauen (new woman) had the fear of pregnancy outside wedlock due to the increased sexual liberation of the time. This is because the 1872 Basic Law regulated abortion, wasn't changed in the weimar, said once an egg was fertilised nothing could happen to abort the baby. Conservative beliefs still prevailed quite heavily in the law

  • Censorship was removed in November 1918, meaning more political media could be published
  • Cinema was an increasing pastime in the Weimar. 3800 new cinemas were built due to the growing demand. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari was one of the first horror films. Metropolis was a sci-fi film
  • Jazz music increased in popularity along with cabaret dancing as they were seen as new and 'exotic'
  • Painters like Otto Dix and George Grosz painted expressionism which was a stark contrast to the romanticism of the previous period. Not only that but modernist paintings were also popular as it focused on the future.

  • Nightclubs involved Cabaret, Nudity, Jazz and Sex. 900 registered nightclubs alone in Berlin during the Weimar Period.
  • Paintings BY Otto Dix and George Grosz, two of the biggest artists of the Weimar era, often featured mutilated female bodies. Some modern scholars now see the art of the era as profoundly misogynistic, getting a kick out of sexual murders almost celebrating violence against women.
  • During the Weimar Period there was more expression in sexuality and Gender identity. Although, by many it was still severely frowned upon. Magnus Hirschfeld was a Gay Jewish Sexologist. He wrote the Third Sex of Berlin, he was ahead of his time in many ways. The first transgender operation was performed in 1920 by a German Doctor. There were Transgender Balls. Berlin became a hotspot for many queer people.
  • Agriculture was becoming less of an industry in Germany, but it was still important. There was an agricultural crash which impacted the economy.
  • Industry had changed alot after WW1. From 1925-28, wages had increased by 2.5% with the working day shrinking to 8 hour days. Trade Unions were more common place in fighting for the rights of those working. Unemployment insurance, was 3% of wage and helped incase you ever became unemployed. War pensions were also common for those who fought in the war.
  • 1925-29 2 million homes were improved, and 101000 homes were newly built
