  Electrons shot from beam, electrons are reflected back and forth to produce a 3D image

  Focused using electromagnets
• Advantages

  Much higher resolution (1nm)

  Detailed 3D image

  High magnification (200 000x)
• Disadvantages

  Expensive

  Requires extensive training to operate

  Samples must be dead as it must be in a vacuum

  No true colour formed (black and white image or additional false colour)
