Heart Rate

    Cards (10)

    • The number of times your heart beats per minute
    • At each heartbeat, blood is pumped into your arteries. It makes the artery wall expand and then contract. One expansion and contraction is called a pulse.
    • By counting your pulse you can check your heart rate.
    • When at rest, the average heart beats about 70 beats per minute (Bpm). As soon as we start exercises this rises.
    • This occurs because your body is desperate for oxygen. and is trying to get rid of carbon dioxide.
    • This immediate rise is known as a short term effect of exercise.
    • Long term effect is that your heart grows bigger and stronger (Hypertrophy).
    • Stroke Volume - This is the volume of blood pumped out of the heart by each ventricle during one beat/contraction.
    • When exercising, chambers of the heart fill more and empty more due to heart beating faster.
    • Longer term effect.
