• the army refused to take down the initial putsch and was a big threat to government
• trade unions called for a general strike which paralysed public services and caused the putsch to be unsuccessful
• the putsch was successful in Bavaria where the army installed right wing government and was very radical
• there was a loss support for groups such as SPD and increase for right wing
