Cards (7)

  • what is interspecific variation?
    Genetic variation between different species.
  • what cause interspecific variation?
Genetic mutations that cause differences in physical traits, adaptations, habitats, etc.
environmental factors like climate, diet, lifestyle, etc.
  • what is intraspecific variation?

Genetic diversity between individuals in a species.
  • what causes intraspecific variation?

due to different alleles and environemntal factors.
  • why is random sampling used to measure variation?

it is impractical or impossible to count every individual when looking at population traits.
  • why is random sampling important to use when measuring variation?

it avoids bias and ensures the samples are representitive of the whole population.
  • what are some of the steps involved in random sampling?

randomly generate coordinates of an area
    collect samples from the coordinates
repeat several times or use others results
analyse the data to identify patterns or relationships
