Skeletal Muscle. Attached to bone, brings about movement, contracts rapidly and is under voluntary control.
Skeletal muscles only create force when they contract and get shorter. They only lengthen again because they occur in antagonistic pairs. When one relaxes and is pulled back to the original length.
Smooth muscle, found surrounding tubular organs (e.g. gut, arteries) and move substances through them (e.g. peristalsis) or does them (Vaso-constriction). It contracts slowly and is under involuntary control.
Cardiac muscle. Myogenic, does not tire and is under involuntary control.
