Acids, alkalis and salts

Cards (4)

  • Neutralisation
    • A base is a substance that neutralises an acid
    • Eg copper oxide and sodium hydroxide are examples of bases
    • A neutralisation reaction is a reaction between an acid and base
  • Base
    • A substance that reacts with an acid to neutralise it and produce a salt
  • Alkali
    • A base which is soluble in water
  • Making salts from insoluble substances
    1. Add the solid to the acid until the reaction stops
    2. Filter
    3. Heat the filtrate until the solution is saturated
    4. Leave in a dry place for the rest of the water to evaporate
