Genetic variation

    Cards (2)

    • What can cause genetic variation?
      1. mutations: a change in the DNA, can from new allele combinations , can only be passed in if in gametes
      2. recombination: forms new allele combinations, crossing over, parents alleles are rearranged in offspring, genetic engineering
      3. hybridization: crossing of 2 different species, occurs when individuals can’t find mate
    • Why is genetic engineering important?
-Favorable traits in male and females will enhance reproductive success
-Traits that are beneficial will become more common while traits that aren’t will become less common
