Humerus and scapula

Cards (8)

  • AP humerus
IR Size: 14x17 screen, bucky, or grid LW
Pt position: supine or standing, place top of IR 1 1/2" above the shoulder, abduct the arm and supinate the hand so epicondyles are parallel to the IR
CR: perpendicular to the IR entering the mid-humerus
    SID: 40"
    Tech: kVp 66 mAs 3.2 or 8
  • Lateral Humerus lateromedial

IR Size: 14x17 screen, bucky or grid LW
Pt position: place top of IR 1 1/2" above the shoulder, supine or standing with back to the bucky, flex the elbow slightly and internally rotate the arm until the epicondyles are perpendicular to the IR
CR: perpendicular to the IR entering mid-humerus
    SID: 40"
    Tech: kVp 66 mAs 3.2 or 8
  • lateral humerus mediolateral
IR Size: 14x17 screen, bucky or grid LW
Pt position: place the top of the IR 1 1/2" above the shoulders, standing facing the bucky, oblique the patient to allow the humerus to come in contact with the bucky. flex the elbow approximately 90 degrees so the epicondyles are perpendicular to the IR.
CR: perpendicular to the IR entering mid-humerus
    SID: 40"
    Tech: kVp 66 mAs 3.2 or 8
  • lateral humerus transthoracic
IR Size: 14x17 bucky or grid LW
Pt position: upright with affected side against bucky. raise unaffected arm above the head, elevating the shoulder as much as possible. shallow breathing
CR: perpendicular to the IR directed through the torax exiting mid-humerus
    SID: 40"
Tech: kVp 73 mAs 25@1 sec
  • lateral mid and distal humerus
    IR Size: 10x12 screen LW
Pt position: supine. affected arm is down by the patients side with the elbow flex 90 degrees if possible. place the IR in between the affected arm and body as close to the axilla as possible
CR: horizontal and perpendicular to the midpoint of distal 2/3s of the humerus
    SID: 40"
    Tech: kVp 66 mAs 3.2
  • AP scapula
IR Size: 10x12 LW grid or bucky
Pt position: seated, supine, or standing with their back against the IR. Place the top of the IR 2" above the superior border of the shoulder. abduct arm 90 degrees and flex the patients elbow for comfort. shallow breathing
CR: perpendicular to the IR entering 2" inferior to the coracoid process and 2" medial from lateral border of patient
    SID: 40"
    Tech: kVp 66 mAs 8
  • lateral scapula body
IR Size: 10x12 LW grid or bucky
Pt position:seated or standing, in RAO or LAo with affected side down, place the hand of the affected side on the opposite shoulder, rotate the patient until an imaginary line between the superior angle of the scapula and AC joints are perpendicular to the IR. suspend breathing
CR: perpendicular to the IR entering mid-medial border of the affected scapula
    SID: 40"
    Tech: kVp 70 mAs 18
  • lateral scapula acromion and coracoid process

IR Size: 10x12 LW grid or bucky
Pt position: seated or standing in an RAO or LAO position with the affected side down, flex the elbow and place the posterior surface of the patients hand on their back, rotate the patient until an imaginary line between the superior angle of the scapula and AC joints are perpendicular to the IR, suspend breathing
CR: perpendicular to the IR entering mid-medial border of the affected scapula
    SID: 40"
    Tech: kVp 70 mAs 18
