HICs such as the USA and the UKindustrialised over 200 years ago. They had lots of time to generate wealth and develop.
Factories manufacture so loads of low income jobs and so slow economic development
They were a colony
Many LICs were colonised by powerful trading nations e.g. France, UK
Much of Africa, South America and Asia were exploited for their resources and their people
Global development became uneven during this time
despite many countries becoming independent in the 20th century, they have been affected by power struggles and civilwars, as a legacy of hundreds of years of exploitation, with many facing challenges in terms of development
Conflict- wars reduce levels of development as men are often fighting instead of working
money is used buying weapons rather than improving the country's roads, schools, hospitals etc. Schools and hospitals damaged meant economically active population decrease
There is damage to infrastructure: buildings and roads
