Privacy and confidentiality

• Participants have the right to Control information about themselves
• if their right to privacy is invaded then confidentiality should be protected
• confidentially refers to our right to have any personal data protected
• personal details should be protected
• researchers refer to participants using numbers or initials when writing up the investigation
• I’m case studies psychologists often use initials when describing individuals involved
• during briefing and debriefing participants are reminded that their data will be protected throughout the process and told that the data will not be shared with other researchers
