  • Atheroma:

    The name for fatty deposit.
    • it forms within the wall of an artery
  • Atherosclerosis:

    When atheroma builds up in the lining of your artery walls & narrows your arteries, blocking blood flow.
  • Angina:

    A type of chest pain caused by not enough blood going to the muscles of the heart.
  • Myocardial infection (heart attack):

    A reduced supply of oxygen to the muscle of the heart.
    • If the blockage is close to the junction of the coronary arteries & aorta.
    • Then the heart will stop beating because the blood supply is completely cut off.
  • Thrombosis:

    • As the blood flow is restricted, blood pressure increases.
    • Causing damage to the lining (endothelium) of the artery.
    • platelets start to group & lay down a blood clot.
    • Now called a thrombus.
  • Aneurysm:

    A balloon-like blood-filled structure swelled from artery walls, that has been weaken from the formation of a thrombus lead by atheroma.
