Unmyelinated Neurones

• Action potentials can and have to occur along whole axon length, conduction speed along unmyelinated neurone is much slower than myelinated neurone
• Diameter also effects transmission speed; wider axon, faster transmission, as there is less ion leakage and resistance - unmyelinated Neurones are wider
• When a peripheral fibre is severed, myelin sheath provides track regrowth can occur, but unmyelinated fibres and myelinated axons of mammalian CNS do not regenerate
