  • Social Support
    The presence of people who resist pressures to conform or obey can help others to do the same. They act as models to shows others resistance to social influence is possible

    P - there is research evidence for the positive effects of social support
    E - in an evaluation of a programme to help teen parents resist pressure to smoke social support was provided from an older buddy. Teens who had a buddy were less likely to smoke than those in the control group who did not.

  • AO3 Locus of Control
    Strength
    P - there is evidence to support the link between locus of control and resistance
    E  - a repetition of Milgram's study was done and measured whether people were internals or externals. They found that 37% of internal did not go all the way compared to 23% of externals. Internals showed grater resistance.
    C - shows that resistance is related to LOC which increases the validity of LOC as an explanation
