  • ALEXANDER and HINES found that young vervet monkeys show the same gender preferences in choice of toys that humans do: males chose to play with cars and females with dolls
  • GORSKI et al injected female rats with testosterone prior to birth. the rats developed ambiguous genitalia and parts of their brains resembled those of male rats. their behaviours was also masculinised: attempted to mount other females as if they were male
  • it can argued that GORSKI et al's rat study can be argued to not be valuable for the biological explanation of gender since human gender is influenced largely by psychological identity as well as physical identity and is therefore perhaps more complex than gender development in animals
