Electrodes

Cards (4)

  • Method
    1. First using sandpaper, clean the metal electrodes.
    2. Then degrease all the metal electrodes
    3. Pour the two different metal sulphate solutions into two separate beakers using a measuring cylinder
    4. Place the metal electrode in the corresponding solution
    5. Then cut out a line of filter paper and soak it in KNO3 solution and place in each end of the beaker.
    6. Connect the electrodes to a voltmeter using crocodile clips and record results
    7. If results is positive then switch the crocodile clips
  • Why do you use sandpaper to clean electrodes?
To remove oxide layer on the metal
  • Why do we degrease the metal electrode?
The grease can prevent the cell from working efficiently
  • What's the filter paper soaked in KNO3 used for?
Its the salt bridge that allows the ions in the solution to flow
