Deviation from Social norms

• Deviation from Social Norms - behaviour that doesn't fit expected standards

  • behaviour that is different to a groups' 'norm' which is specific to a culture/age/religion
• (DSN) + Real life application

  • used commonly when diagnosing antisocial personality disorder so has utility as an explanation
• (DSN) - Not a sole explanation

  • there are other factors to consider even in diagnosing antisocial p.d.
• (DSN) - Can lead to human rights abuse

  • too much reliance on deviation can lead to systematic discrimination and abuse of people's rights of being different
