Great Hall

Cards (3)

  • Great halls differed greatly from those in medieval periods, being used as entryways rather than central parts of the house, being one story high instead of two, and used as a servant's dining room rather than the dining place of the owners
  • At Hardwick Hall, the great hall was designed as a communal space, in the middle of the house at a 90^{90^{\circ}}angle
  • By having the Great Hall in the middle of the House, it allowed more light in, made the house more practical and warmer, and provided more symmetry to the building
