Hitler and Germany

• Hitler came into power, and very soon after he removed Germany from the League. He then began re-arming Germany, and created contravention of the Treaty of Versailles (opposing it).

  Terms: Covenant of League was the first item of Treaty, Germany had therefore signed up for League's covenant.

  Hitler's actions: Germany left the L of N and Hitler expanded past boundaries, which T of V allowed, direct contravention of L of N's covenant.
• Treaty of Versailles did not allow German air forces; Submarines, tanks, limited navy, army of 100,000 men only, conscription banned.

  Hitler however rearmed Germany, reintroduced conscription and ignored the Anglo-German naval treaty which stated that its army could not be larger than Britain's.
• Treaty of Versailles also demilitarised Rhineland - Hitler remilitarised the Rhineland.

  It forbid the Annexation of Austria - yet in 1938, Austria was unified with Germany and its military strength began to grow in contravention to the treaty of Versailles.

  Germany's borders had been redrawn to contribute to the creation of Czechoslovakia, but Hitler demanded that the Sudetenland was given back from Czechoslovakia in the t of v.
