(1850) ~ Mendel conducted breeding experiments with pea plants. This showed him that; hereditary units determine our characteristics, these units are passed onto offspring and that they can either be dominant or recessive.
(End of 1800s) Chromosomes were discovered and cell division was observed.
(Early 1900s) Scientists realised the similarities between the hereditary units and chromosomes. It was proposed that the hereditary units were found on chromosomes.
