synapses and nervous communication

Cards (3)

    • primary purpose of synapses is to connect 2 neurones so that a signal may be passed between them
    • they also ensure that messages are passed along a specific pathway
    • synapses also allow a far wider range of responses than if neurones were physically connected to each other
    • however, synapses usually involve more than one neurone
    • nerve junctions can involve several neurones converging on one neurone or one neurone sending out signals to several different neurones that diverge to different effectors
  • converging circuit
  • diverging circuit
