UN Resolution 242 (November 1967)

• UN security council insisted Israeli army withdraw from occupied territories and for Israeli recognition from Arabs (supports Arabs on land and Israel on peace/security)
• Eygpt and Jordan (not Syria) accepted (excepting Israel right to exist), Israel implied Arabs didn't really want a peace settlement but eventually accepted
• Little progress was made as Arabs insisted withdrawal was first step to peace but Israel found occupation gave added security
• Set formula for future negotiations (Land-for-Peace); led to peace treaty 1979 but not before another war
