  • An economic success with a guaranteed supply of grain created used to feed those in the cities.
Grain could also be sold abroad in set amounts for the first time, which helped to pay for new industrial equipment, and also for the five year plans.

  • The decision to leave NEP and move to this rapid industrialisation method of politics was an important reason for Stalin's defeat of Bukharin in the power struggle. The countryside became under total Communist control, there was no more independent spirit.
  • Motor Tractor Stations were able to monitor the countryside and spread propaganda.
A new system of internal passports meant that peasants no longer could leave the farms without official permission, and so in the early years of collectivisation there was no issue having a steady stream of peasants to work collective farms.
