Voting age 16

Cards (2)

  • Votes for 16 year olds
Young people have a lot of access to information through social media and the internet meaning they may be arguably better informed than adults
They are considered mature enough to make decisions that will affect their entire life at 16 so they should be able to vote as it will primarily affect them when they grow older
They may be encouraged to vote and this may lasts throughout their life
  • No Votes for 16 year olds
Turnout in younger voters is much lower and this could lower the overall turnout challenging the legitimacy of elections even further
They are more easily influenced possibly by misinformation and could just get told who to vote by their parents
