Predestination

Cards (11)

  • Predestination, or qadar, is the belief in Islam that everything that happens in the world is predestined by Allah.
  • Predestination does not negate human free will, as Muslims believe that humans still have the ability to make choices and are accountable for their actions.
  • Some Sunni Muslims believe God has already determined everything that will happen in the universe and written this down in the ‘book of decrees’. God creates all things, including the actions of his creatures, so they must act according to his will.
  • Shi’a Muslims believe that God knows everything that is going to happen, but this does not mean that he decides what is going to happen. This means humans still have free will, so they can make their own choices.
  • Quote from Qur'an on Predestination: Allah "regulates all things"
  • Some Sunni Muslims believe in the concept of Jabr, which states that everything is predetermined and humans have no free will.
  • Shia Muslims believe in the concept of Bada, which states that Allah can change his decrees based on human actions and prayers.
  • Other Sunni Muslims believe in the concept of Qadr, which states that while everything is predetermined, humans still have free will and are accountable for their actions.
  • While some Sunni Muslims believe that God has already determined everything that will happen in the universe and humans must act according to His will, Shi'a Muslims believe that God knows everything that will happen but does not decide what will happen, allowing humans to have free will and make their own choices.
  • Quote from Qur'an on Predestination: "Never will we be struck except by what Allah has decreed."
  • ALL MUSLIMS BELIEVE IN PREDESTINATION IN SOME FORM
Only some Sunni: God has predetermined all, we act to his will
Some of Sunni and Shia: God knows it will happen, but changes it based on our actions and prayers.
