Respiration

Cards (6)

  • What type of reaction is cellular respiration?
    • Exothermic - heat and energy are produced in the reaction which is given out to the surroundings
    • CONTINUOUS - always occuring in cells
  • What are the differences between aerobic and anaerobic ?
    • Anaerobic - lactic acid (animals) is produced and Yeast: ethonol and carbon dioxide. Some plants: ethonol and carbon dioxide. Chemical energy is still stored
    • Aerobic - carbon dioxide and water is produced - no chemical energy is stored
    • Anaerobic - small amount of energy is released
    • Aerobic - large amount of energy is released
  • Why do organisms need respiration/energy?
    • build large molecules ie water (product)
    • Maintain body temp
    • Muscular contractions - ie chewing food
  • What is the aerobic equation?
    • glucose + oxygen ---> carbon dioxide + water
    • Same but opposite symbol equ as photosynth
  • What is the anaerobic equation
    • glucose ---> lactic acid
    • Plant and yeast cells - glucose ---> ethanol + carbon dioxide
  • What is anaerobic repiration in yeast cells called
    • fermentation
