acid + metal carbonate ---> salt + water + carbon dioxide
acid + alkali ---> salt + water
strong acids
strong acids ionise almost completely in water. A large proportion of acid molecules dissociate to release H+ ions. [means more H+ ions, less acid molecules] they have low pHs.
weak acids
do not fully ionise in solution. only a small proportion of acid molecules dissociate to release H+ ions. their pHs tend to be around 2 - 6.
