  • Ear Infection
    1. Pink: Mastoiditis: tender swelling behind the ear
    2. Yellow: Chronic Ear infection- pus is also seen but reported for 14 days
    3. Yellow: Acute Ear Infection- pus is seen draining from the ear reported for less than 14 days, ear pain
    4. No ear pain, no ear pus
  • Treatment for ear infection
    1. Mastoiditis: give first dose of appropriate antibiotic. paracetamol for pain and refer urgently at the hospital
    2. Acute: antibiotic for 5 days, paracetamol, dry the ear by wicking
    3. Chronic: dry by wicking, instill quinolone otic drop for 2 weeks
  • Wicking
    drying of ear using absorbent cotton cloth strong, soft tissue
    • no paper or cotton applicator
    • 3 times a day
