  • Prevention of Child Injuries
    ● According to statistics from 2002, children under 18 years of age have died or gotten ill from:
    Animal bites
    Poisoning
    Road Traffic Accidents
    Burns
    ● In the Philippines, such injuries are the 6th leading cause of mortality and 5th leading cause of morbidity.
  • Prevention of Child Injuries
    To address such issues, the following laws were established:
    Executive Order 310: Philippine National Strategic Framework for Plan Development of Children (Child 21)
    ○ Goal: Protect and safeguard the rights of Filipino children and synchronize family, community and national efforts towards the full realization of children’s rights, in terms of:
    1. Survival
    2. Development
    3. Protection
    4. Participation
  • Prevention of Child Injuries To address such issues, the following laws were established:
    Administrative Order 2006-2016: National Policy and Strategic Framework for Child Injury Prevention and Control
    ○ Addresses issue of child injury
    ○ 5 Priority Areas (Most common injuries):
    1. Electrocution
    2. Vehicle Accident
    3. Poisoning
    4. Falls
    5. Drowning

    Injury
    Physical damage when the body is suddenly or briefly subjected to intolerable levels of energy.
  • Prevention of Child Injuries Injury
    These can cause:
    ● Bodily lesions from acute exposure to mechanical, thermal, electrical and radiant energy.
    ➢ Most common is electrical
    ● Impairment of function due to absence of one or more elements such as air, water, and warmth.
    ➢ Ex: Suffocation
