Evolutionary psychology

Cards (6)

  • What is survival of the fittest?
the ones who have the genes that make them survive in an environment are more likely to reproduce and pass on the genes – the genes are naturally selected
  • What is the genome lag?
genes are far behind environment in evolving - environment is constantly changing - genes take ages to evolve
  • What is the fight, flight and freeze response
response to a threat in an environment
    fight - confront threat
    flight - run away
freeze - stay still and don't move
activated by sympathetic division of the ANS
False FFF responses can be triggered by anxiety -stops body from being able to stop the false reactions
  • Environmental evolutionary adaptation
Mind and behaviours adapt to fit in with the environment - apes evolved from 4 to 2 legs as they were hunters and it made them better for their job
  • Strengths ?
women have a greater role in the workplace and are less dependent on men - love for love not just convivence to stay alive
  • Weaknesses?
Evolutions of characteristics was said to have stopped 10,000 years ago but the gene to digest milk was selected and passed on less than 10,000 years ago
Gender bias - FFF response explains men's response to a threat but not a women's - disadvantage to women ancestors - they were protecting offspring - biased towards men's behaviour
