Transport in cells

Cards (7)

  • Diffusion can't happen in solids as particles can't move and no passive energy needed
  • Osmosis
Movement of water molecules from a dilute solution to a concentrated solution, through a partially permable membrane
  • Diffusion
Movement of particles from a high to low concentration, down the concentration gradient
  • Things that can effect the transport in cells:
    • The size of molecule
    • Temperature
    • Concentration gradient
    • The permeability of cell membrane
  • Active transport
Movement of particales from an area of low to high concentration, against the concentration gradient, using energy
  • When osmosis occurs in an animal cell it can change the shape and size and even durst if they take too much water in by osmosis. This happens because animal cells don't have a cell wall.
  • Factors effecting diffusion:
    • Concentration gradient
    • Temperature
    • Surface area of the membrane
