process theology

Cards (5)

  • process theology outline
god isnt outside of time, he is present with us and acts, rejoices and suffers with us. god isnt omnipotent and his powers are limited due to physics. god only knows possibilities, not the future.
  • process theology - griffins view on god as the creator
the earth being without form in the phrase 'the earth was without form' implies the universe already existed. he is creating order out of the formless chaos. the universe is uncreated and eternal, consisted of unformed chaotic matter
god and the universe exist together - panetheistically, meaning everything is in god and god is in the universe
gods role was creative in that he persuaded matter away from the choas into order and complexity
  • process theology - gvogatc cont
babylonian accounts suppose the gods created the world out of chaotic pre existing matter so its probably genesis makes the same assumption
  • griffin on god's omnipotence
1 god didnt create out of nothing so he doesnt have unlimited power.
2 chaotic matter can resist god, analogy of human minds and bodies compared to god and the universe - connected in some way
your mind can control some of the body but cannot (matthw) become taller by thinking about it. if god persuades the universe it has presumably taken billions of years since the big bang to organise it. his thinking is immense but not unlimited
  • evaluating process theology
support from quantum mechanics - reaity is fluc and change
    supported by babylonian stories
strength of lack of omnipotence, explains why he cannot control evil, but this can be seen as weakness, why worship?
