  • The Nepal Earthquake occurred on 25 April 2015, with the epicentre 80 kilometres away from the capital city Kathmandu.
  • The earthquake measured 7.8 on the MMS and its focus was 15km beneath the ground. Two aftershocks took place of 6.6 and 6.7 on the MMS.
  • Social Impacts
    9000 people died and 17000 were injured.
    Electricity, water supplies and communication networks affected. 90% of schools and clinics in some areas left unusable.
  • Social impacts
    Mount Everest experienced avalanche killing 19 people. Landslides produced by earthquake affected villages and Kathmandu city.
  • Economic Impacts
    €10 billion worth of damage done to property. 1 million children left without schools to attend. 3.7 million people in need of emergency aid (food, water, tents, medical attention)
