  • Henry announced his intention to assert his claim to the French throne in 1492 and used two grants received from parliament to pursue this campaign and defend Brittany. france were focusing on Italy so aimed to make peace quickly, which they did 9 days after henry arrived in brittany.
  • on November 3rd 1492, the Treaty of Etaples was signed, France agreed to not support english rebels and agreed to cover Henry's costs of intervening in Brittany as well as the arrears of the Treaty of Picquigny, totalling 745,000 gold crowns. France were to pay 50,000 crowns a year and 5000 pounds annually, creating a sizeable pension of 5% of the kings' annual income
  • despite maintaining peace with France, Brittany and almost the entire southern channel were now controlled by france
