  • by 1495, European rulers believed Charles VIII was becoming too powerful and wanted to drive him out of Italy. the Pope alongside Spain, HRE, Milan, and Venice create the League of Venice, and England are initially left out as they want to maintain a good relationship with France
  • by 1496, Ferdinand believed it was dangerous to exclude Britain, so Britain joined in October 1496 under the condition that they would not go to war with France. Henry showed he would not be pushed around and dragged into wars he did not want
  • Henry had signed a commercial treaty with France whilst also maintaining a good relationship with the League of Venice, Henry was allies with strong and emerging economies and was not being pushed around
