warbeck rising

Cards (4)

  • warbeck's plot received support from Ireland, France, Burgundy, and Scotland, creating a dynastic problem for Henry, and jeopardising key features of Henry's foreign policy, as catholic kings such as Ferdinand did not want their daughters marrying into an insecure crown.
  • in 1493, henry disruoted cloth trade by placing a trade embargo on Holland, as Philip and Margaret of Holland had offered Warbeck aid, therefore helping Henry gain prestige as he is willing to sacrifice in order to not be pushed around
  • this also highlighted the long-term problem of a potential Scottish invasion of England, sparking the truce of Ayton in 1497.
  • warbeck's rising also showed that internationally-backed rebels could disrupt English trade
