Issues with Hoover

Cards (2)

  • Many accused Hoover of not doing enough during the great depression, and called him a "do nothing" president.
  • Hoover believed in "self-reliance" - individuals should look after themselves.
He also believed in volunteerism. This meant the government should not force people to do things. He encouraged businesses not to cut jobs and wages, but did not force them.
These beliefs support his ideologies of a laissez-faire style government, and his disagreement with interventionism.
