• Liverpool's economic activity + cheap housing + established communities = attractive for migrants
• Potato famines (1845-52) encouraged lots of Irish to migrate to Liverpool for economic opportunities other than farming
• These established communities have altered the built environment since mosques were built, as well as a Greek Orthodox synagogue, and a Caribbean christian community
