• Due to the high quality of the buildings from the 19th century, many of these buildings are now 'listed' properties in order to preserve the built environments history
• In 1861, a railway was built which allowed fishermen to sell their product to a larger market
• This railway also allowed residents to travel to and from Exeter with ease = time-space compression
• The railway meant that Lympstone became a 'dormitory settlement' for people commuting to and from Exeter for work commitments
