Light and colour

• Opaque: Cannot see through it / light cannot be transmitted through it
• Transparent: Can see through it / light can be transmitted
• Translucent: Can see through part of it / some light is transmitted, some is absorbed
• Explain why we see an apple as red

  1. Visible light is reflected from the surface of the apple
  2. But all the wavelengths of visible light except red is absorbed by the red pigment of the apple
