Introduction

• Jambatan Basi is a slum which is 4km north-west of the city centre
• This slum is as a consequence of a lack of affordable housing
• The government, and private sector, don't have the resources to meet the increasing demand for housing due to the rapidly growing population size in Indonesia
• Jambatan Basi is densely populated with 31,000 living within 0.5km2 which although creates great poverty, it also creates an extremely strong sense of community
