• The inner city became slum like by the 1950s due to dense population
• Due to the vast amount of industrial activity, the canals were polluted an the air quality was so bad that some people wore face masks
• There was a predominantly white demographic due to a lack of migration to Birmingham, most migrants were attracted to Liverpool or London (South-west)
