Housing

• There was a total loss of 5000 homes during the bombings of WW2
• 400 tower block were opened in the 1950s/60s and in total, between 1945-1970, 81,000 new homes were created
• This loss of housing in Birmingham led to the redistribution of the population away from the centre - the local and national government created a 'green belt' to stop urban sprawl
• Many areas on the 'green belt', which had good transport links, saw a drastic rise in land value
