  • Books/Literature & Cinema = Russian history
    • Idolised ordinary life
    • Music and dance had to be happy and positive
    Jazz = immoral
    Ballet = acceptable
  • Ended creative freedom
    • Film makers, musicians, artists, writers used to be able to make/write about any thing they wanted in the 1920s
    • At this time the only allowed art form was socialist realism
    • Anyone who created media not of this form was shot or sent to the gulags.
    • Simple, direct communist message
    • Making things look easy to understand - visually controlling art
    • All art had to portray communism / pro-country and be 'realistic' and easy to understand
    The aim of this was so that communism and the soviet union's ideologies were inescapable, to inflict a psychological incapability on people making them unable to forget Stalin in any aspect of their life
