  • Ibrahim is presented as a role model of obedience to God.
  • Ibrahim refused to worship idols and smashed all idols except the biggest one. He hung an axe around the neck and blamed the biggest statue, then claimed why would anyone worship something that can’t speak.
  • Ibrahim was put in a big fire through a catapult but was not burnt. This is evidence of miracles.
  • Angel Jibril asked Ibrahim if he wished for anything before being put into the fire, but all he said was that he wished for Allah to be pleased with him.
  • Ibrahim also had a dream in which Allah told him to sacrifice his son, Ishmael. This dream reoccured and he was prepared to follow Allah’s command even though he loved his son.
  • Ibrahim took his son to Mount Arafat and he told his son about his dream from Allah. Ishmael immediately obliged but instead of killing his son, he killed a ram. Allah told them he looks after his followers and that they had just passed a difficult test.
  • Muslims sacrifice animals in memory of Ibrahim’s obedience to sacrifice his son. This is known as Id-ul-Adha.
