Peace and conflict

• "An eye for an eye" (Surah 5:45)
• "Take not life, which God has made sacred, except by the way of justice" (Surah 6) --> related to "an eye for an eye"
• "Paradise is for... those who curb their anger and forgive their fellow men." (Surah 3)
• "Enter into peace wholeheartedly" (Surah 2)
• "Attack anyone to the same extent that they attack you" (Surah 2)
• Muslims greet each other saying "salaam alaykum" --> means "may peace be with you"

  Islam is also derived from the word meaning "peace" in arabic
• Ahmadujya --> a group which campaigns for human rights for everyone, whatever the religion

  Speak out against terrorist activities

  "Love for all, hatred for none"
• Just War:


  -"Fight them until there is no more persecution, and worship is devoted to God" (Surah 2) --> lesser jihad
• Holy War:

  -"Strive in His cause as you ought to strive" (Surah 22) --> Jihad
• Just War:

  -just cause

  -intention of restoring peace

  -reasonable chance of success

  -proportional methods
• Holy War:

  -must have a religious goal

  -must be authorised by a religious leader

  -must promise a spiritual reward for those who fight in the war
