    80 children - 40 nursery (mean age of 10 months to 4 years) - 40 primary (mean age of 5 years)
  • Method
    Children shown 2 rows of counters. Naughty teddy came out of the box and moved one row of counters making them closer together. Children were asked before and after teddy came along if there are more here or are they both the same number of counters
  • Results
    41% gave correct answer = all the same if display was changes deliberately. 68% gave the right answer if the change was accidental. Figures were higher for primary school children compared to nursery children
  • Conclusions
    Nursery children were able to converse. There are age difference in ability to converse
